Andrea Hernandez is an undergraduate sophomore at Mount Holyoke College where she is pursuing a self-designed major in American Studies. She is particularly interested in exploring issues facing Latinx communities in the United States, including access to human rights such as housing and education. Andrea currently serves as the Community-Based Learning Fellow and chair of CAUSE, Mount Holyoke’s umbrella civic engagement organization. These roles have allowed her not only to connect students with existing service opportunities across the Pioneer Valley, but to support them in starting their own sustainable community projects. She is also a member of Spanish Corps, an organization that seeks to break language barriers in the local public school system by offering English to Spanish translation of policy materials, guidebooks and other documents. Upon graduation, Andrea hopes to work towards making higher education more accessible for low-income and first-generation college students. In her free time, she loves to read, listen to podcasts and bond with friends.
